IOWA NATIVE
Dakota grew up in the small northwestern, town of Fairbank, Iowa. And after graduating High School, Dakota went to Iowa State University for Computer Engineering.BUILDER BY NATURE
Dakota is a self-starter who isn’t afraid of teaching himself something new. When recalling his time in high school, Dakota took it upon himself to build a computer. He explains, “I guess it’s because I am a nerd. I grew up playing video games with my brother and cousins, which led me to essentially teaching myself how to fix some of those systems when they broke. Then it just carried over to building my own computers.” And from building computers, Dakota is now working on building parts of his home. This decision was because “my wife Cally wanted to build a house so we would get what we wanted instead of settling. Also, her family had available land for us to build on and we both wanted to stay in the area so we could be close to family,” said Dakota.ROLE CHANGE
In December 2019, Dakota was promoted from Assistant Controller to the Plant Manager at CITY. “I am very excited for this opportunity and I like the challenge. I enjoy working with my coworkers and I look forward to leaving my stamp at CITY and no two days are ever the same,” said Dakota. He now spends most of his time overseeing CITY’s maintenance, production, as well as the stockroom staff.WHEN HE IS NOT WORKING
On the weekends, Dakota enjoys spending time with his wife and spending time with his newborn daughter Zoey, who was born in 2019, around Christmas time. And when he gets the chance, Dakota enjoys fishing locally.

BACKSTORY
Luis was born in Mexico and moved to the United States in 2007, and since then, he has lived in a few different states. Up until his recent move to Waverly, Iowa, Luis, his wife, and their two sons lived in Indiana. With his 16 years of manufacturing experience, Luis said he is excited to utilize that expertise in Iowa now, as a part of CITY.MIDWEST APPEAL
Luis has lived in many places, but “when they told me about the opportunity here, I said why not? It’s Iowa. Well, okay, let’s go to Iowa and take a look. But the thing I love the most is when I first talked to Colin [Wetlaufer, CITY’s President] and the team, I loved the culture, the vision for the company, and I thought it was a perfect fit,” said Luis.JUST FOR KICKS
In his free time, Luis says, “I like coaching kids in basketball and soccer, but mainly soccer. I’ve coached for probably eight or nine years. I started coaching because it was a great way to spend time with my kids but then I found out how much I enjoyed coaching, and in some ways, that’s why I like manufacturing so much; I need to be able to be a great coach and leader for the operations side of the company.Alongside coaching in his free time, Luis also greatly enjoys traveling with his family. One of his most memorable trips was when he visited China. “I love the culture, the way they think and loved the food! We went to the Great Wall, which was fun. It was quite a challenge; we climb the great wall the old way, no shortcuts, just walking all the way up. I almost regretted it, it was a long walk, but it was worth it in the end. I was told: Not reach Great Wall, not good man, sometimes translated "He who doesn't reach the Great Wall in no hero. It has come to mean that: to get to their goals admirable people must overcome difficulties, “said Luis.

His passion for serving others, translates well into his work as a Route Service Representative. “Law enforcement is not a whole lot different than servicing our customers,” Todd said. “You are dealing with people and you are trying to help.”A NEW OPPORTUNITY
After spending the majority of his professional career in law enforcement, Todd was looking forward to a new challenge. His job as a Route Service Representative combines some of things he loves about his old job with the new. “I like driving and I don’t want to be stuck in one place at any given time. This job gives me the opportunity to do both,” Todd said.A FAMILY BUSINESS
It’s important for Todd to be part of a family business with a rich history like CITY’s. He believes customers are served better by those who support community. “CITY is truly a community,” Todd said. “You feel like you are important and not just a number.”A TRUE MINNESOTAN
Todd has five kids and keeps busy with his three grandchildren. He also enjoys the outdoors, hunts and fishes. While he enjoys watching hockey, don’t ask him to skate.
