Hit the 5 Year Mark
It all started with a 4 a.m. discussion on their way through Des Moines to Arizona when President Roger Wetlaufer and Vice President/General Manger Colin Wetlaufer were “talking crazy.”
“A good percentage of Iowa’s growth comes from Des Moines since that is where most of the population is, so it made sense to start there,” President Roger Wetlaufer said.
“We started from nothing, but we didn’t get discouraged.”
Having an experienced employee in Des Moines, according to Roger and Colin Wetlaufer, is why City saw success.
Des Moines Regional Manager Mark Ballo had lived in the Northeast area until 2008 when he moved his family to make this “crazy idea” come true for City.
On June 10th, City’s Des Moines depot will be celebrating their five year anniversary.
“It’s taken us five years to produce two full time routes,” Ballo said. “I want to thank all of my co-workers for their effort; without you we couldn’t do what we do.”
A majority of City’s new sales come from Des Moines and Colin Wetlaufer believes that is because City is the best provider for the Des Moines metro area.
“We are the only legitimate provider with a local Iowa base, who focuses on the quality of service. We are growing a lot of sales just based off of word of mouth.”
City is currently looking for a rental sales representative for the Des Moines area to help with the growth.
“I promise it won’t take us another five years to grow two more routes,” Ballo said. “We would like to add at least four more routes by 2020.”
In 10 years, Colin Wetlaufer thinks that City will be the market leader for the Des Moines metro area.
Thinking long term, Colin Wetlaufer would like to see sales increase in Des Moines to a point where they have to add another production shift just to process Des Moines.
“I am excited to ask, when will our Des Moines area be bigger than Oelwein?” Colin Wetlaufer said.
