OELWEIN, Iowa — The last day for Linda Franks at CITY Laundering Co was Thursday, April 27th. After 17 years, the Mending and Repair Specialist announced her retirement.

“It was a happy, yet sad time. I’ve really enjoyed working at CITY because the people at are unforgettable,” Franks said. “I really enjoyed my job, and it was very fulfilling.”

Franks started at CITY in April of 2000 when her cousin Bonnie Blue mentioned the open position. Blue was another employee who retired after decades of service at CITY.

Starting at CITY as a production employee processing and sorting garments, Franks steadily became the go-to person for mending and repairs for the service department. On an average day, Franks repaired approximately 300 pieces.

“She has been an integral link between production and service and we are all going to miss seeing Linda’s smiling face out in the plant,” President Colin Wetlaufer said.

Franks said everyone has been very good to her and it is the relationships she has built that she will miss the most.

“Some of the best memories I have at CITY are getting to know my co-workers and then getting the chance to celebrate retirement parties for people who were here a long time,” Franks said. “It was great being recognized for my time here too.”

Over the past 17 years, Franks said she enjoyed seeing the improvements and the transformation CITY has made, but as for her Franks said, it is time she slowed down and enjoyed life a little.

After her retirement, Franks said,” I am going to spend some time in my flower beds and paint my kitchen, and I am going to take my time doing it!”
