Transportation Transformation – 5.8.17
Transportation Transformation –
Jamie Randall – Maintenance Manager
For a company that has been around for 112 years (as of May 26th, 2017), it is crucial to reinvest and stay one step ahead of the game.
That is why CITY has decided to increase the number of straight truck loading bays and purchased a couple new straight trucks for our service representatives.
CITY’s maintenance crew is finishing up four new external loading docks exclusively for straight trucks.
Out of all of our routes, a majority of our route service representatives are in straight trucks because we have found there are more benefits to using a straight truck than the steps vans.
The straight trucks can carry more product, there is extra space for the route reps to stay organized, and it makes loading and unloading easier.Overall, it is a better vehicle to drive for our routeservice reps, especially in the winter time.
If you look over time, CITY’s fleet vehicle transformation is impressive: starting in 1906 with a horse and buggy, to small mini vans, to larger step vans, and now straight trucks.
Just looking at the service vehicles alone is a demonstration of how the company has grown.
We are in the transitional phase, but the goal is to put as many route service
representatives in straight trucks as possible as CITY continues
to grow.
