Service VS Driver – Ken Shnor

Working at CITY, we often hear the terms Route Service and Route Driver used to identify the same job. In some ways, this is logical because the two titles play a role for our Route Service Representatives at CITY. Nevertheless, a Route Driver does not nearly cover the job of a Route Service Representative. Driving is a small and often times the easiest part of the job.

As a Route Service Representative, they are managing each account by delivering and servicing them CITY’s products to meet or exceed all of their expectations. They make sure they are full of supplies, they watch for increase and decrease use, they add or subtract new uniform wearers, they pitch new rental services and direct sales, all while building and maintaining a trusted relationship with their customers.

A lot of times, they are the liaison between CITY and the customer and they are a crucial part of CITY’s resigned accounts, growth and success. In many occurrences, customers resign a CITY agreement because of the trust they have with their Route Service Representative.

Overall, my conclusion is that Route Drivers work on a day to day basis. They take care of only what needs to happen today. Our CITY success does not come from our Route reps solely focused on today’s business, but rather how they focus on today’s job and the future job. Our success comes from our responsive, long-term partnerships with our customer and having a team from sales, office, and production that helps provide them with a service they can trust. Clean and simple.
