Feeling Valued in a Family Business

When I began searching for my first job out of college, I never expected to end up at a large public company. My plan was always to work for a small business and to use my writing degree in a way that was fulfilling and valuable. After working for a large company and then changing jobs to a privately-owned, family business, I realized I should have upheld my original intentions.

From my experience, the atmosphere at a larger company is much different than the family business atmosphere. Employees got “lost in the crowd.” They were not viewed as people who have essential value to bring to the company, but rather just tools for getting a task done. The employees merely helped check tasks off a list that were part of a bigger picture, a picture that was not even shared or discussed with them.

The corporate headquarter’s location did not know each individual employee by name. They did not know their job title or what they did each and every day for the company. They only knew that an employee filled a desk at one of their many locations.

Furthermore, larger, national-based companies often do not have the time or eagerness to make sure each and every customer is taken care of, like a family-owned business does because another customer is just around the corner that can be a replacement.

At a privately-owned, family company, the atmosphere is completely different. Each and every employee at CITY fills a role that is significant and appreciated. Everyone appears to have been carefully picked and deliberately placed in positions that will allow them to succeed. And when you are given the opportunity to succeed in a position that you thrive in, the workplace becomes a much more efficient, positive, and rewarding place.

CITY values its clients as well. Each client is given quality service in each step of the process – from sale to service. CITY also prides itself in keeping clients long-term. According to our client records, a majority of our clients have been with CITY for at least 10 years.

It is easy to for me to write about CITY because of the strong family-owned traditions they started over 110 years ago. By working in the marketing department, I can use my skills to write relevant, valuable, and entertaining content with the intent of motivating a response. It is my goal to help our future prospects and employees understand how much they are valued when becoming part of the CITY family.

I have been a part of many rewarding projects so far, and my writing will reach many individuals and will impact people’s perspective on CITY. I believe as I grow with CITY, its brand, and its values, I will be able to write in a way that gets even more people’s attention. Being given the opportunity to grow with this family business will be an amazing adventure, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
