Taking Your Work Home – Behind the Work

“When your son’s imagination kicks in, and he starts acting like a manager, you know you may be taking your work home with you,” Operations Manager Jon Cornick said.

Jon’s son loves hearing about his “superhero” dad and his work at CITY. This past summer, when Jon’s family was driving through road construction, Jon’s son liked to point out when the construction workers seemed to be unproductive.

“My son likes to pick up where I leave off at work. It’s kind of cool to see my son trying to be like his dad,” Jon adds. “One important managerial lesson I have taught my son is to not ask something of someone that you wouldn’t do yourself.”

Jon enjoys the variety of tasks his CITY position entails – from overseeing the washroom, production, maintenance, janitorial, and the garment processing, to maintaining CITY’s inventory for each route service rep.

Jon says, “I really enjoy the change of pace that each and every day brings.”

Jon manages roughly twenty to thirty people at CITY. He also works alongside the service manager, Ken Schnor, to make sure all of the route service representatives are taken care of and have what they need to service clients.

“We are all on one team here, whereas other companies I have worked for in the past have departments that go head-to-head, and they forget they are on the same team with the same goals,” Jon says.

Furthermore, Jon appreciates CITY President Colin Wetlaufer’s leadership style.

“It’s great that the president is involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility. There is no bureaucracy. We can make decisions quickly to take care of our clients,” says Jon.

CITY’s success is a reflection of CITY’s culture and more importantly the dedication from the employees.

Finding employees that fit well with CITY’s culture is something that Jon looks for. He believes in helping employees understand the ins-and-outs of the process and the impact that they have on clients everyday by doing their jobs.

“CITY touches so many lives just by providing clean uniforms. We help people start their day with confidence,” Jon says.

There are a lot of pieces that go into the puzzle and Jon is an essential component to making CITY successful. He looks forward to simply “making it happen” each and everyday.
