Providing a Healthy Work Environment

When employees feel under the weather, their productivity and engagement drops, which affects your bottom line.

For example, according to the American Journal of Managed Care, migraine headache costs as much as $17 billion in the United States with lost productivity in the workplace adding substantially to that total.

“Only private business…can solve America’s epidemic of obesity, chronic disease, and runaway health care costs by investing in the health…of their employees,” according to Toby Cosgrove, CEO of Cleveland Clinic.

The goal for CITY and employers alike is to keep the workplace healthy and productive, and the best way to ensure a healthier work environment is to stay ahead of illness and to be prepared when illness occurs.

It is imperative to commit resources that help employees feel their best and to help prevent them from being absent from the workplace due to health reasons. By “creating a worksite that supports and encourages a healthy lifestyle,” employers can actually reduce sick leave by 27.8 percent.

To prevent absenteeism, businesses must:

  • Demonstrate and promote the importance of a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensure employees have access to preventative care and treatment for common health problems.
  • Ensure employees have access to competent occupational health advice and support.

Furthermore, these recommendations will promote a workplace culture that encourages health management and for employees to change their habits. By demonstrating support for employees, employers encourage attendance and produce happier and more motivated employees.

Employees need this support and motivation from their employers, or they might just find work elsewhere with a company that values them and their health.

“The 20th century viewpoint that believes people are a means to an end has run its course. We are seeing employees refusing to play by the tired rules from the previous century…They are leaving companies that treat them as a finite asset in hopes of finding someplace where they are valued,” Shawn Murphy, CEO of WorkiQ, said.

CITY provides customers with a first aid and safety program that truly demonstrates how instrumental employees are to the business.

“I believe my position as a facility services rep shows an employee that they’re a valued member of the workplace,” Al Voigt, CITY facility services representative, said. “My daily impact on people is the most important part of my job. I’m given the awesome task of making sure the needs of each and every person in the businesses I service are able to have quality safety supplies when they need it most.”

Your supplies will be fully managed, restocked, and organized so that your workplace is healthy, safe, and productive. Employees will have direct access to first aid supplies for headaches, colds, and even emergencies such as cuts, burns, and abrasions.

“After having CITY’s uniform program for about seven years, Al approached us with a quote for a first aid program,” said Lee Fisher, general manager for Shottenkirk Chevy located in Waukee, Iowa. “I’m glad he did, because we have saved about 40 percent compared to our previous national provider. We now stay better stocked without being overly supplied, and I feel a lot better knowing we always have what we need for our personnel.”
