COVID-19 is profoundly impacting communities around the country but that’s not stopping CITY President Colin Wetlaufer from ensuring customers can count on safe, fresh and clean products to keep their businesses running.

“We want people to know that they’re going to get the right product, processed the right way,” Colin said. “Part of our mission is to be as responsive as possible and we’ll give guidance to businesses about what’s best for them, to make sure that everything is navigated correctly.”

Colin also reflected on how CITY has pivoted rapidly to keep up with the changing economic demands and has used their industry connection to gain insight on what needs to be done.

“From Mexico City, Puerto Rico, New York City, L.A., Seattle, Tulsa, Chicago, we get a lot of perspective of what others are doing,” Colin said. “We’re on top of what changes need to be made with the latest cusp of information.

Early on during the COVID-19 outbreak, federal, State, and Local Governments designated CITY as an “essential supplier to critical infrastructure.” While the situation is constantly evolving, all of CITY’s staff are working diligently to ensure other essential businesses like food processing, agriculture, or public utilities can continue their services.

“Laundry is such an intimate part of a business. There has never been a climate that required more attention to our customer’s businesses than now,” Colin said. “Being able to have good relationships with our customers knowing they have faith in you is key and I think it’s everything.”

Since 2018, CITY is the first uniform laundry provider in the region to receive the Textile Rental Service Association’s [TRSA] Hygienically Clean Food Safety certification. CITY underwent three rounds of microbial testing, as well as testing of water quality, textile fabric composition and wash chemistry. CITY employees have also been extensively trained on what it means to uphold the hygienically clean certificate. This training provided all employees with an understanding of proper washing and drying procedures, garment inspection, transportation of textiles and appropriate personal protective equipment to avoid garment and linen contamination. CITY’s commitment to holding everyone accountable during the cleaning process is an important part of bringing peace of mind to customers during the pandemic.

“It’s a big part of the process,” Colin said. “Being able to tell an employee you don’t have to worry about it because it’s processed correctly and there are no bacteria or viruses living on it. I think it’s very important to build trust and confidence and we are proud to provide it.”

CITY also remains committed to providing consistency through the chaos of COVID-19. With the rapidly changing prices on certain products and other commodities like hand sanitizer and personal protective equipment, CITY wants to ensure customer’s pricing is going to stay the same, so businesses that are already dealing with hardship through COVID-19, don’t have to worry about other unexpected expenses.

“We know how important it is to have certainty in an uncertain time,” Colin said. “We never want to be a vendor to our customers where customers have to go through the bill with a magnifying glass to understand it. Our goal is to be the best vendor for all of our customers. As simple, transparent and easy we can make the process during this pandemic, the better.”
