The Environmental Impact of CITY Laundering’s Solar Panels

At CITY Laundering, we’re not just about keeping things clean—we’re committed to doing it in a way that helps keep our planet clean, too. Our solar energy program is a huge part of that commitment. As the largest privately held company in Iowa to harness solar energy, we take corporate responsibility seriously. By reducing our carbon footprint and working toward energy independence, we’re ensuring that our business not only serves our customers but also takes care of the environment.

The image shows four solar panels with a quote from Chriss Carsello about CITY’s commitment to sustainability.

The Power of Solar: Cleaner Energy for a Brighter Future

Solar panels are pretty incredible when you think about it. They take sunlight—something we have in abundance—and turn it into electricity without producing harmful emissions. The technology relies on photovoltaic cells, which capture and convert sunlight into usable power. It’s an efficient way to tap into a clean, renewable energy source that helps reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. By choosing solar, we’re actively reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and making a real difference in the air we all breathe.

How CITY Laundering’s Solar Panel System is Making an Impact

Our solar setup includes 850 solar panels with a total capacity of 301.53 kW. That’s a big step for our company, but what does that really mean in terms of impact?

In short, it means we’re making significant progress toward cleaner energy and lower emissions. Our system generates around 440,233 MWh of power each year, which adds up to big savings for the environment:

  1. It’s like cutting out 18,029 gallons of diesel fuel every year.
  2. Or like not burning 20,652 gallons of gasoline.
  3. It’s also the equivalent of powering 36 homes for a whole year.
  4. Plus, it could fully charge over 12 million smartphones!

By switching to solar, we’re preventing those emissions from going into the air, keeping the environment cleaner and healthier.

The laundry industry has high energy demands, and we know we are responsible for using that energy wisely. This solar initiative is a crucial step in CITY Laundering’s sustainability journey, setting an example for our industry.

By choosing renewable energy, we’re not just reducing our environmental impact; we’re also showing that it’s possible to run a business sustainably without compromising quality or service.
