Employee Spotlight: Chiyaka Ogbondah

At CITY, we know that the success of our business is driven by the amazing people who make up our team. This month, we’re excited to highlight Chiyaka Ogbondah, one of our dedicated Route Service Representatives based in Oelwein, IA. Chiyaka’s positive attitude, commitment to service, and passion for building relationships make him a standout member of the CITY family.

Chiyaka chose to join CITY after staying in touch with his former supervisor, Josh Meike, who is CITY’s HR Business Partner. “The people here are amazing, and the culture is great,” Chiyaka shared. “Josh told me I would enjoy it, and he was right. The main thing I love about working here is the people. It makes coming in every morning easy—even at 4 a.m.!”

“When I joined CITY, identifying the right person for the Route Service Representative role was a top priority. After understanding the position, Chiyaka immediately came to mind. Having worked with him before, I knew his values and passion for building strong customer connections would align perfectly with CITY’s culture. His reliability, energy, and genuine approach to people truly set him apart. I’m thrilled to have Chiyaka as part of the CITY team,” said Josh.

As a Route Service Representative, Chiyaka has the unique opportunity to interact with a wide variety of industries, from manufacturing to food production. He enjoys the behind-the-scenes look at how these businesses operate, and he takes pride in the fact that his work helps keep them running smoothly. “It’s like seeing the gears that make America move,” Chiyaka says. “I get to work with such a variety of people and industries, and it’s been eye-opening.”

Beyond his professional skills, Chiyaka’s interpersonal relationships have been a key part of his success at CITY. He emphasizes the importance of being an open ear and a team player in his role. “It doesn’t matter the industry; if I approach every situation with an open heart and a willingness to help, the people I work with appreciate it.”

The camaraderie at CITY also stands out to Chiyaka. He’s grateful for his supportive supervisors and colleagues, from CITY Route Supervisor Randy Jipson to Regional Manager Ken Schnor, as well as the People Operations team. “When you work with people who are kind, patient, and willing to help, it makes all the difference,” he explains. “I’m grateful to be part of such a great team.”

“Chiyaka is a fantastic person to work with. He is always willing to pause whatever he is doing to help a someone in need. He comes in, gets his work efficiently, and consistently delivers great results. It’s truly awesome to have him on our team,” said Randy.
