Elevating Food Safety Standards Through Laundry

As a pioneering laundering service provider throughout the region, CITY has consecutively earned the TRSA Hygienically Clean Food Safety certification over the years.

This achievement marks CITY’s dedication to delivering high-quality garment rental services tailored to the stringent requirements of the food industry. The certification covers various food industry segments, including meat processing, dairy, fruits and vegetables, bakeries, grains, and more, ensuring all textiles are free from harmful bacteria.

“We know the importance of keeping the uniforms as clean as possible, especially when they are uniforms that come in contact with the foods millions consume. It is one thing to say, we know these uniform frocks are clean from a self-audit; it is another to say an accredited, national organization said we surpass their expectations,” Director of Communications Emily Hauber said.

The Textile Rental Service Association (TRSA) conducted an extensive third-party inspection of CITY’s facilities, focusing on critical control points to verify compliance with all certification standards. This included establishing and validating effective Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) systems and maintaining thorough documentation for ongoing certification adherence.

The inspection ensures that CITY maintains hygienically clean standards throughout its operations and that its staff are well-trained in these protocols.

CITY’s commitment to food safety is further evidenced by having a dedicated individual overseeing the quality of food processing and service garments, ensuring the maintenance of the TRSA certification. CITY’s extensive knowledge in this field stems from participating in TRSA E-courses, consulting with food safety experts, and actively engaging with clients to enhance their quality manual.

Originally adhering to food safety guidelines, CITY took a step further by acquiring the Hygienically Clean certification. This third-party audit adds a layer of validation to their commitment to hygienic cleanliness.

CITY also places a strong emphasis on employee education, incorporating hygienically clean food safety training in new employee orientations. This training encompasses essential aspects such as washing and drying procedures, garment inspection, textile transportation, and personal protective equipment to prevent contamination.

To achieve TRSA certification, CITY underwent three rounds of microbial testing and will continue these tests quarterly. Additional evaluations of water quality, textile fabric, and wash chemistry were also performed.

“We recognize the importance of food safety and understand that proper uniform laundering is a critical control point in minimizing cross-contamination,” Colin Wetlaufer, president of CITY, said. “We’ve made investments in our equipment and technology for the food processing industry, and the TRSA certification is a testament to that commitment. We want to put our customers in the best position to succeed.”
